It's actually a 9mm magazine in a real AR-15 rifle. I do own a BB gun, but it's not as nice to look at. :)

AR15 modified to shoot 9mm? Very cool. Saves on ammunition too. Was there a .22 conversion too?

I agree! 9mm is much less expensive than the standard .223 round. From what I understand, Colt only manufactured the .223 and 9mm, but other companies manufacture compatible lowers that handle a .22 round.

Oh gosh yes. A box of .223 at my local shop is around $22. A box of 9mm is about $9. No contest. I go plunking around with my 9mm and .22 mags since they're so cheap.

I don't shoot myself, but just out of curiosity, do you get any adverse effects from using a round that's not as big across as the barrel's bore?

I should imagine you would, sure. Doesn't seem like a smart thing. That one there has been modified, though. That includes the barrel. My friend's got an AK-47 that shoots .22. No big thing.

Agreed! My favorite "cheapo" rifle for plinking has to be the Ruger 10/22. It takes me a while to go through a 500-round brick and it's loads of fun and light on the wallet.

You should never shoot a round through any firearm that isn't supposed to be in there. I've never done it, so I couldn't tell you what the exact adverse affects are, but they can't be good for the firearm or, possibly, even the shooter.

I'd love to pick up an AK one day, when the right one comes along at the right price. Fortunately, though, I expanded my hobbies now to include photography, so my time and money has shifted towards the new hobby. Ultimately, I'm happy because my wife is enjoying photography with me and we're both learning at the same time. I can't say the same about her and my firearm hobby, though.

Ah, okay. I was under the impression that only the loading mechanism had been changed out, and the barrel was still the same...

You have no idea how weird this thread reads from a UK perspective - here the only people who have guns are teenage gangstas and farmers with .22 rifles and shotguns. Handguns have been banned ever since Dunblane, even at the expense of Olympic target shooting. even the cops are usually unarmed ( except for special units)

I can remember a saying, 'outlaw guns and only the outlaws will have guns' - seems to be coming true here. kids are going crazy shooting each other up.
