Just wondering if anyone has seen any details. like whether or not they fixed the issue with losing IPTC data upon conversion, and some of the other peeves we've all complained about.

Thanks.

On that subject how do you upgrade your current version to the latest version, there dose not appear to be an upgrade function with DPP ( well the one I have 2.2.0.1 ) and I dont see it on the Canon.au site.

I beleve version 3.0 is what you get with the 1D mark III

yb98 - It says so in the 1DMkIII annoucement.

Previous upgrades, 1.6 to 2.0 with the appearance of the 5D and 1DMkIIN (2.1 was a bug fix) and 2.2 for the 400D, were available for download two or three weeks after the cameras started appearing in stores. Before 2.0 was actually available on Canon sites a couple new 1DMkIIN owners (illegally) put the program on the 'net.

Going from one version number to another, 2 to 3, there is a very good chance that those users with any v2 will not be able to download/install an upgrade program. Canon did this with Zoom Browser at one point. Those with v4 could not upgrade to v5 as anything on Canon's webiste are updates and not the full version.

Since they named it DPP 3.0 rather than DPP 2.3, we can hope to see some big improvements, not just minor modifications. I hope so.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. I certainly hope that they let us upgrade from ver 2.2 to 3.0 via a download. I don't know where, but I seem to remeber that the Zoombrowser issue mentioned above was because the new version simply could not be updated. It required an entirely new installation of the program, and since Canon makes it a point of only providing updates, and not the full version of these programs via their website, it gives justification for why they took that approach with Zoombrowser.

Hopefully they won't do the same with DPP. I still find it gives me the best output, despite its other shortcomings.

Digital Photo Professional Version 3.0 and EOS Utility Version 2.0 are scheduled for release in April 2007

I also hope they let us upgrade. This would be a good move on their behalf.

Are you guys sure this will be a universal version. I'm getting the feeling that it's going to be dedicated to the new Mark III.

To my knowledge, they've never released a specific version for any specific camera. Whatever the version released, it has always included all cameras in the EOS line.
