got this one printed by the local news paper.. I used a 30D with a 50mm F1.4 I guess they had too use it as I was the only guy there taking photos? 1/1000, shutter priority, f1.6, ISO 1250..

What is going on with the setup I would think it would be more sharp ? C&C Please.

The focus is on the audience, behind the players.

It looks underexposed. I'd bump the ISO to 1600.

Au contraire! I suggest bumping the iso down to something like 1000 or even 800 and then decreasing the shutter speed to about 1/500 or 1/640, which would really be more than fast enough for most basketball. Then you can reduce the noise level and increase the overall exposure (it is a bit dark).

Ditto - if you have this good lighty for Basketball you should move the ISO down slightly, maybe to 1000 and set your shutter to 1/500 and adjust the f/stop accordingly. For indoor basketball you should be in M mode

Remember to let your histogram be your guide on getting the exposure correct. Also - if you are underexposed at higher ISO's you will get grain.....

Let the camera pick to focus point and with teh action in front of you , you should bring the players into focus - not the fans as in this pic.

keep shooting and posting

Man Thanks for all the help and replies I was trying to adjust as I was shooting but even on the 30D the view screen is still small and hard to see what you really get until you upload to the computer..
Looks like basketball season is over for me and now moving onto baseball.. I will post more here and the help is more than appreciated! ;)

Yeah in the paper it look much better in B&W and the grain looked a little better in this news paper..

You couldn't see the histogram? The 30D screen is not that small.
