Ok I have narrowed my WA lens down to 2, I have seen great pics from both, one is about $200 less than the other, money is not the problem, sharpness and fast and quiet is !

Which would you buy?

If money is no problem then get the Canon. It is sharper, faster, and faster to focus. The Sigma is obviously not bad, but the Canon is slightly better.

I have the Sigma, I am quite happy with it.

The Canon 10-22 is the best lens in my bag, easily (although admittedly there's not a great deal of competition in there for it). It's unbelievably good; focus is quick and accurate (at least, it is on my 30D), and the IQ and colour (with a poloriser, naturally) are awesome. It is, however, undeniably pricey.. I'm not sure it's $200 better than the Sigma.

This is your second thread on this. You've been given opinions, facts, and lots of websites with tests. Here's what you need to do: go to a camera store and try both lenses out and decide for yourself. If you need us to make up your mind for you, you don't need either lens.

We jsut had a very similar poll but it was not limited to just the choice between Sigma and Canon. You can get an idea of what people are thinking by viewing those results as well.

I'm pretty sure that when I get an UWA lens it will be the Canon 10-22mm. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Sigma is a great lens. For me its a choice made by what I see as a slight advantage over the Sigma, slightly better IQ and slightly better and faster AF. I could be wrong.

i don't have either lens but wanted to ask how the difference in apertures affects people's decision....IMO...i would use this lens inside some and would want to be able to use a larger aperture....i know it doesn't matter that much outside...because i have other lenses if i need a shallow depth of field and when shooting landscapes you don't need a large aperture...but how much emphasis would you put on Canon's aperture adavantage?

Well its easier for me to see poll results, I guess I should have done that to begin with and you can tone down being a smart a$$ a little, I make up my own mind with the information I have, the more information the better, if you do not want to offer a comment that is an answer or a direction to the answer then don't post and just murmer your smart a$$ comments under your breath.

As um...chak said...you should know by now. And as everyone said, if you got the money get the Canon. If you got the money but want to keep $200 for a TC or to another lens then get the Sigma. You will barely see a difference in them. Aside from trying it, you'll be happy with the Sigma 'cause it will do what you want and you'll save $200. If you get the Canon and you're happy, something in the back of your mind is going to think, "I wonder if I should have saved the $200 though."

Mine works great indoors. I used it Wednesday indoors for the first time under horrible fluorescent lighting.

I doubt it matters. I could shoot with either and be happy. If you feel a need to split hairs between lenses that are basically the same then you may not realise that the greatest difference in the system is you. I sincerly doubt that any differences between the two is worth worrying about, but if you are worrying then get the Canon. It is also faster and has a slight range advantage, tho' the Sigma is an EX model. Some people are never happy until they get what is approved of and a Canon, whatever model, is inevitably approved of by more people than another brand. I chose the Tokina 12-24mm 4.0 a while back and it's cheaper than either and I took very good shots with it.

I think that the aperature difference is so small (a half stop) that it's not really a big deal. :) Both are fairly slow lenses, but both can be handheld down to 1/15th of a second wide open. In most situations, you're not likely to use either for stopping action, and if you did need to, you can always pop on a flash. I did briefly try the Sigma 10-20 before I got the Canon 10-22, and both worked great indoors. (I ended up returning the Sigma due to centering issues -- I had one of the many copies with a soft right side. :()

I already did in the other thread you started about this exact same topic. I was just wondering at what point you were going to take the enormous amount of advice you were given, do some of your own research, maybe actually try the lenses out and buy one. :)

Oh.. and I have called all shops in a 100 miles and none have them in stock, so I can't just try one.. I wish I could..

And even here and on the other thread the battle is pretty close.. Canon seems to be favored but not by many.. I guess its a coin toss, I will continue to watch the posts and see pics and see which I prefer..

For those that helped thanks..

Don't pay attention to a poll. There's no reference behind it. As I read in most, of course after I bought mine, everyone said if you got the money get the Canon. I tried both and for $200 there was no reason to get the Canon other than the fact it was a Canon. And I put it into something more definite like, it's not worth a TC. I could get a lens and TC or just a lens.

Whenever something comes that close, that's how I decide. And now thinking about, I think I decided on my 2.8. Darn my ways!!!
