Cardinals and Unidentified in backyard!

I took some pictures this winter in the backyard of male and female cardinal and an unidentified bird trying to keep warm. Anyone know what the other bird is? Also, I don't have PP, could these be improved with that capability?
Thanks, I used a 2IS optical zoom, 1200, 5.6. Is this about what to expect with this equipment?
