Ok this might be a bit of an odd one, but i am right handed but always put the viewfinder to my left eye........ i cannot for some reason 'make' my right eye see through the viewfinder, if i place the viewfinder to my right eye i don't see anything! i can't seem to control the muscles in that eye to 'look' through the VF!

Anyway, this odd little infliction causes several problems.... Such as, when i have the camera pressed to my left eye it is very difficult to press the AV+/- button to adjust the aperture when i'm in manual mode on my 350d without me having to take the camera away from my eye - also the fact that the camera designed to be put to your right eye means that when pressed to my left eye my nose is in the way! this occasionaly accidently changes settings! i'm always accidently switching the timer on and missing shots as a result  and finally the last problem it causes me is in bright light i sometimes find it very difficult to see the VF info bar due to the bright light beaming in through the gap left from it not fitting snug to me eye........

Anyway, just curious if anybody else has the same problem or if anyone can suggest anyway to overcome this!! i'm sure it is hampering my progress in photography....

Anyway, just out of curiosity i have added a poll to see which eye people use......

I am right handed and I use my right eye ('cause my left eye's eyesight is worse), but I occasionally use my left eye to look throught the viewfinder, just to train the muscles that are not usually used. I have no problems with pushing any buttons using either eye... I use the * button to autofocus usually, no problem with the left eye either.

Same here - my distance vision has always been better in the left eye than right.

I haven't used a 350D so maybe that's the difference, but I have no problems with my 5D. The worst thing that happens is I sometimes get nose prints on the LCD  . But seriously, it's something I adjusted to years ago and don't even think about now.

Shoot enough pictures and you'll adjust.

I'm right handed and look through the view finder with my left eye because I have better vision in my left eye. It's a bit awkward but creates no problems that I can't deal with.

Good to know i'm not alone!!! didn't expect to see so many people doing the same....... One reason i brought this up is because i recently went on a photography course and the tutor taking the course happened to spot somebody else putting the camera to the 'so say' wrong eye and told him not to! went off on one saying that the camera is designed to be used with one eye inparticular - so use it! He never noticed me doing the same but i'm glad to hear this is quite a common thing.......

Thats actually a common problem, not only when using cameras.
Alot of people who are right handed often have a left handed approach to some aspects of life and vise versa, ie: someone who is uses their right hand to write with, often play cricket (baseball for you yanks!) or shoot a rifle or do something else left handed. Strange hey? Personally, I'm right handed, but play alot of sports left handed. Although I use my right eye to look through the view finder on my camera
There is a statisticts web site I came across ages ago that had some numbers on this. I can't remember exaclty what the figure was, if I find the web site I'll post it.

Well i cant see your poll but i am left handed and left eyed. The only time it causes me a problem is when i am shooting mx at the side of the track and am using the vertical grip as i like to keep both eyes open incase someone or something gets a bit to close and all i can see is the back of the bloody camera, there could be a double decker bus running at me from the side and i wouldn't even know.

Did read something somewhere about being left or right eyed to do with shooting a pistol but dont hold me to it.

Look at something about 4 or 5 meters away with your finger or thumb inline with the object at arms length and line it up so it looks as if it is directly over and in line with the object. Now without moving your arm shut first your left eye and then your right eye and you should notice that either your left eye or right eye at one point will leave your finger or thumb covering the object but when you try it with the other eye it will move out of line with the object.

Which ever one stays in line is your strongest eye

Well that would be great.... if i could only close just my left eye without scrunching up the whole of the left side of my face to do it! and when i succeed at that my right eye is barely open..... lol

Yeah. I'm right handed, left eye dominant.
Created me problems when I started combat shooting with a hand gun.

Same here. I can only shoot rifles left-handed, which really sucks when the cartridge ejects on the right side. Needless to say, I don't shoot rifles often.:(
