And you just couldn't resist.

No sweat. Big Brother is watching. ;)

It seems like they always come out soft in RAW mode

RAW images aren't sharpened in the camera.

And using the flash causes images to look really hazy, especially around the edges of the object.

I'm guessing either overexposure of the background, or maybe a film or filter on the lens. You are using the lens hood, right?

You could literally be up until MIDNIGHT trying to get it right and I'm getting really bored of this.

You should be able to process those 5 images in less than 10 minutes each.

It would be nice to have some warm light skimming the french fries from the rear-side.

Anyway, here's my AMERICAN setup. (I happen to be a moderate Democrat and I think that firearms are inherently bad.)

And here's a few more shots. Maybe they're a little better than the last ones? Okay, maybe not. It seems like they always come out soft in RAW mode and I have to add lots of sharpening. And using the flash causes images to look really hazy, especially around the edges of the object. This takes so much trial and error. You could literally be up until MIDNIGHT trying to get it right and I'm getting really bored of this.

You livin' in Fla?

Thanks for the advice and maybe I'll make some more French fries tomorrow. :D It takes me a while because it's hard to get the right exposure. Apparently, you have to overexpose it just right. I am using the lens hood but no filter.

3. There is a provision in the FORUM RULES about political comments.
So I may have to give myself a "time out".

Oh I'm sorry. This is in no way supposed to be a political statement, merely a stereotypical joke, okay?

2. Ask your neighbors, the Swedes, what they have in their closets.

Not to mention all Dutch are drug-addicts. And proud of it!

No, if they're still too white, hold 'em in longer. They need to be yellow/orange-ish. God..don't you have cooking lessons over there? :D

Made mine today... Results:
Used the lid off a CD case to get the reflection.

Used 3 flashes, a Sunpak 544 on the left, a Vivitar 285HV on the right, and a Canon 166A in the middle pointed upward to bounce off the top. The 544 and the 285 were triggered via radio slaves, and then 166A was triggered optically.

I used legal paper for the inside, and used wax paper on the flash holes to diffuse the flashes. The picture was taken before I taped everything totally down.

This looked fun when I found this thread back on page 50-something, finally had a chance to build mine and try it. Definitely not as good as most, but for my first attempt at lighting anything (other than with a flash) I guess they're ok. Here are the first test shots...

Not bad Mike, looks like you need to up your exposure a bit and possibly need to do a custom WB.

I think it is a bit over exposed. This is an also an example of when you need a black patch to kill the reflections from the top of the box. The top ring is blown out to the point there is no detail. You may want to get a solid black cloth as well. And if there is personal engraving like that, turn it so it can be read. If it is just the manufacture , turn it to be hidden.

Get a second light to control the shadow as well. You want it to be even with no hot spots, like the one in the middle of the ring.
