Comments welcomed. :)

Might want to try to set the box a tad bit higher so that the lights are actually around the inlets on the side of the box. And try a white color bulb instead.

Wow silly me. I was thinking of ways to try to get the bulbs lower. Don't know why I didn't think to raise it up. That should help with the shadows I'm getting in front of my subjects correct?

Sure do. I ended up getting myself some smaller 100W ones for when I don't want to melt my subject items. ;)

I decided to pull out my light box again. Here is one of the resulting shots. C&C would be nice.

I just went and took these 2 shots. This is exactly how mine was set up for the black background pictures I took yesterday. Hope this helps answer some questions.

:D

Todd,

What are you using for the light diffuser/s on the sides of your box?

Dan

OK - now it's my turn. I made the box an hour ago. Sides and top are Mylar I had lying around.

The rabbit was shot in my driveway with natural California light with a hand-held Canon PowerShot A720IS on macro.
What a great little camera. I gave the Nikon D70 to my wife as this little Canon does everything I need to do.

Ok so after looking at EVERY page in this thread I finally made a Light Box I will post pictures of the set up tomorrow , This is so much fun.

I still have some work to do on it as it is now it's just a Box with 2 holes on each side covered with Legal Printing paper and 1 Fluorescent lamp on one side and flash bounced inside .

David, I'm no pro, but here's what I see right off the bat. Your first and third photo seem to have white balance issues. The third one isn't bad, but the first one is very noticable, but easily fixed. I think the camera is compensating for the flash more than your extra light, which is causing the overal red/orange tinge to the photo. To fix this you can do a custom white balance. Take a picture of your background, the white paper, and make sure it's exactly how you would shoot if there were a subject there. That way the camera can meter and adjust for all the blended lights inside the box. Take that picture and set it as the custom white balance, should be an option in the white balance settings area. This should cure the problem in shots 1 and 3. Your second shot looks pretty good to me. If I am wrong, will someone please correct me as I don't do the whole light box thing very often. Thanks and keep shooting David, you are on the right track!

^^ Thank you I will test some more tomorrow with setting Custom white balance , In my the 2nd shot I boosted the amount of light from the flash , But I will get right .

Anymore advice , Should I line the top of the box with White paper to help with Bouncing the flash ?

David
