Well, I've finally built myself another lightbox... a slightly better one than last time I think! I've made the light holes themselves slightly smaller (as i'm not using great lighting)

Anyway, i remembered the hints and tips you guys told me (regarding setting the custom white balance etc) and I've got "Eos Capture" so I can use my laptop to trigger the shots (so I don't blur/move the camera on the tripod).

Here are my latest attempts. What do you think? (Still a bit grey in places. but much better than last time!).

looks good, my only complaint is the black fade at the top in the last one

Well, extended the lens winds up being fairly tall in the lightbox, and I could probably fix that if I could re-arrange the lights better. I will have to try that next time. As it was I had one light just a hair off my left ear... I kept feeling the box and camera etc to make sure they weren't getting too warm. Those Lights get HOT. I have some others I took, just didn't post them. And the foil did seem to help.

The shadows in the last one suggest the colour balance could be a touch off.

How could I go about fixing this?
I notice there is an option in my menu (i think it's to do with colour) where the number is 5200k... would altering this help at all?

Menu in the camera or menu in the PP software?

The general seems a little out of focus...

I am trying to find a halogen light like the OP had.. Does anybody know what type of store you can get them in? I am excited now, at how well homemade light boxes seem to work. I will start gathering parts tomorrow.

I would say you can probably buy those at most hardware (sears, home depot, lowes) or even some auto parts stores (pep boys).

Great idea, ssracer. I will check Home Depot for some cheap $10 halogen lights. I wonder if they have easel paper there..

I kind of doubt it, but you could always try a role of parchment paper from the grocery store. I am going to have to build one of these myself soon.

Can anybody who made a light box with easel paper tell me where they got it? Maybe Walgreens, CVS, or even a craft store like Michel's?(I know I spelled that wrong, I am tired..)
