I made my box last night.. I need to play around with it some more. I only got 250W, for fear of fire. Though it is not bright enough, once I get my tripod, it should be fine on a high exposure.

I built a light box tonight. Problem I'm having is getting the white balance. I take a sample shot, use that as white balance, but my shots are still coming out brownish?

Is everyone tweaking in raw to get a nice white background?

I like the size and design of your lightbox. Please give some details to my questions below:

1. I figure you also use the regular foamcore board, what size and how many boards.
2. What size is this box?
3. And I see you used self adhesive velcro but does the black color affect your photo?
4. What paper did you use on the sides for diffussion? What light power are you using; 250W or 500W?
5. Did you use any paper for backdrop? If so, what kind of paper.

I surely do like the output of your lightbox. Thanks for showing this.

1. Foam board is 20x30 4 peaces
2. Box is 20x20x20
3. The black Velcro is all I had but it is on the outside so should not effect photos
4. Paper is gift tissue paper, I am going to change it to easel paper, lights are 500 watts
5. BD was easel paper it had been removed when I took the shot of the box

Thanks for comments

mort, looks good.
My suggestions:

1. The first pic looks alittle dark, more light to the front of the fish. Maybe tad longer exposure?

2. The 2nd pic i think would look better if the focus was on the tips instead of the grips or all if it in focus if possible.

Thank you very much. Actually I have also printed that exact one out before I saw yours, I did not know they are replicas. But I like them and I will follow the instructions, it is well explained. Thanks very much both to you and the originator.

After reading all this thread from the first page to the last page. Well, I went to Pearl Arts Supply on 308 Canal Street, New York www.pearlpaint.com (external link) today to acquire materials for assembling my own lightbox as listed below:

5 (3/16") 20x30 White Foam Board @$1.67 = $8.35
1 14x17 Medium Tracing Paper (50 Pages) = $7.73
1 30"x15' Scotch White Banner Paper Roll = $2.18
6 19x2 Various Color Papers for Backdrop @$1.18 = $8.35
1 12x16 Acrylic Clear Plexiglass = $5.87
1 Mini Polymer Acrylic/Plexiglass cleaner = $1.09

Total cost for the project as of now is: $34.24 (NYC Tax included).

Now I just need to get 2 250W/500W Worklight or get a flourescent bulbs type of light, 'cause I am scared of those heat from the halogen worklight. I will be back when everything is duely constructed.
Anybody got a recomendation about a bright light that is not "heat generated" like the halogen worklight. Links to the alternative lights will be appreciated.

Note: I am trying to built a lightbox like usernames: w7cma and cfpackerfan.
Thanks for your contributions guys.

AGAIN if you are shooting on a tripod you do not need tons of light. just about any light will work. You want good QUALITY of light, the quantity does not matter. 3 200 watt lightbulbs (even 3 100 watters will do) will be more than sufficient. Just get the WB set and you are good to go.
