Wow, definitely 10000% better buuuuut, ya kinda sorta cheated, ;) you used your 40d & a different lens (your 50mm vs. the 100mm originally) for the two newest shots. I was sort of working toward something on the 5d not being setup for an indoor shot with the lighting you are using. I would try that same shot with the 5d & 100mm using the custom WB just to make double sure. :) BTW, I would think you don't need to drag out the grey card since the tent is, well, white. You should be able to use it as your WB reference shot.

Plus much as I love my 40d, ya gotta love those FF shots. :)

BTW, I am using those trumpet shaped CFL daylight bulbs which are 30w native but supposed to be something like 100w equiv. I scored them at Walmart of all places. I have a couple more typical cylinder shape CFL daylights with the same wattage and the trumpets do seem to give off more light. Supposedly that is because the coils are not on top of each other so more light gets to the subject. I still think that is a bunch a you-know-what but heck they were only $6 or $8/ea. when i found them last year. At the time there were selling for up to $65/ea on eBay. I swear if you tag something as being a photography accessory the price increases exponentially. Worst part is people pay it...Makes me wonder is anyone has looked at the prices for foam core stuff at a photography shop anywhere...a part of me bets it will be $10/sheet.

And here are some experiment shots.

I'm still having some problems with exposure, I still don't seem to get pure white color. For those who have experience with light boxes, what is you technique? I shoot mostly sports/action and I'm ignorant about light boxes.

Do you use a white card to expose correctly? AF or MF? Etc.... I need teh help.

All were shot with 40D w/70-200 f/2.8, and I used mirror lock up on all. Also, no PP applied, these are straight from the camera.

Just a white balance issue. I just adjusted the wb temperature. Hope you don't mind. Also, the white hat is a bit tough, just due to highlights getting blown out. Try overexposing a bit then bringing it back in post process.

Sorry! Wasn't trying to throw things off. It was just easier working with the 50mm since 100mm on my 40D is tight and I have to back up from the tent a good bit.

Thanks for the tip on those bulbs. I will try those the next time I'm at Wallyworld and see what I find.

Here you go. Custom white balance set off the white from the tent. 5D+100 macro a.k.a. "the razor" :)

I think I'm going to have to try this sooner rather than later. It looks like fun once you get it going :)

No problem cowboylife.

I went in and turned the WB to auto, and it looked a lot better than custom.

Better?? Used grey card, set custom wb in camera.

Color is better for sure but can't help staring at the shadows and wrinkles in the fabric....

Lot better. Still looks a tab yellow to me. could be either exposure/fill light isssue or white balance. Either way you're real close.

Yea, I'm still experimenting. I wonder if my screen is off, because it looks ok on my screen.. If anything there might be the slightest blue in the background, but it is hardly noticeable.

It's actually alot yellow... I fixed it, but you don't have "Image editing ok" on so I won't post it unless you say it's ok.
