Ok, I am not happy with the previous light tent I made from a PVC frame and bed sheet. I've been looking thru this thread and decided to try the box construction.

I am "working" right now ;) in the office, shooting "product photos" ;) ... hey, it's a Friday!

I think I have it tuned in and I am happy with the following image. I really like the slight natual shadow, almost looks like a small PS drop shadow...but also due to the item as well. I need to direct the light towards the front more, where it's not quite as white. Anyway, what do you think?

1/13sec, ISO 100, f18, 42mm on the 18-55 kit lens (work camera, 350D)

Hi Tom...those aren't bad at all. :D
A couple things though....

I can see the creases in your paper...
and you need to clean your sensor. ;)

Indeed I do. Thanx cat. I thought it was the lens. I'm only usign the kit lens right now (god I hate this lens). I cant afford the 24-70l 2.8 that I REALLY want. haha Do you know how long canon takes to clean and the send the camera back?

You don't need to send it to Canon. ;) Get yourself a Rocket Blower (external link), do a quick search here for sensor cleaning, read up a bit on it, gird your loins, and go for it. You'll be good to go in no time. ;)

This may be a stupid question, but where exactly is the sensor? I think I know, is it that small round white thing where you grip the camera, to the right of the lens?

I could resist it and tried this DIY myself. Went to Home Depot, picked up 2 250W work lights, cut out a cardboard box and tried to take a few pics. I was disappointed. My conclusion was that the paper I was using on the sides was blocking too much light. I ran out to Walmart and picked up some black foam board and constructed my own box. 13" wide, 15" deep, 15" tall. I also bought some type of material for $1.00 per yard. It's some kind of fabric that's near transparent. This time MUCH more light came in and the shadows under my figures came out much better. Anyway, enough blabbering...here are some pictures:

The setup:

My eyes see well enough, and the camera is capable enough, now if they would just work together.

They had 500w lights at Ralphs Supermarket for $8.99 in the hardware aisle.

What's the price of the 250s your comparing?
