Is 250w good enough or should i spring for the 500w? STEGUIS- how did those 250w work for you?

this is a great thread!

With this current setup the 250w is just fine although now I wish I had spent the extra $2 for the ones at sears that are switchable since you will need the extra light especially if you're building a bigger lightbox.

Thats as good if not better than I get with a lastolite box. These are great packshots - and packshots sell packs!

Do you mean my efforts. if so that's very reassuring and I'm on the right track. :D Excuse my ignorance but what are 'packshots'?

'EDIT' I googled packshots. Now there's a whole new area to expand into.

very nice jack. i still haven't been able to get a reflection like that. looks like all you need is a little windex. :)

Hahaha, I know it looks dusty, doesn't it. Believe it or not I did clean the glass before I started shooting. I think the glass had a lot of bubbles in it. :D That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Maybe all the bubbles contributed to the good reflection. ;)

Thanks for the nice comment. I'll work on the dust spots a little more.

My eyes see well enough, and the camera is capable enough, now if they would just work together.

Has anyone in Britain been able to find suitable lamps? I went to my local B&Q today, which must be one of their smallest stores, hoping I could join in the fun but and they only had normal household or garden lighting. Ended up leaving with a toilet seat instead.

Michael.

Try your local Machine Mart. £10.00 each for the 500w.

A toilet seat isn't really going to work with this setup, but if you do find a use for it then please do share!

Someone else on this thread found the lights for £6 in Netto. I checked my local store and they had sold out.. you might want to check yours.

I beleive Homebase and Wickes also has the lights as mentioned above for £10... or you could buy them on ebay, delivered for the same price.

My Canon can.. I just need to find out how

Michael.

Wait, did you find a DIY ringlight plan?

How funny would that be, a toilet seat on the front of your camera. LOL

They had 500w lights at Ralphs Supermarket for $8.99 in the hardware aisle.

What's the price of the 250s your comparing?

Ralphs? interesting. I'll give them a try.

At home depot, 250w is $8/each and the 500w is $14/each.

Cheers all for the help, I will find out which of those stores I have locally and try to visit one of them next week.

Okay, so here's the first shot (well, the first shot after changing the WB to Tungsten) using my lightbox:

For a first shot, I'm pretty happy, as I've never tried anything like this before.

That said, I'm open to suggestions. I sense a bit of a red tint to the shot. Anyone else?

I also sense a red tint, Was it like that before you uploaded it?

I think if you place the lights lower, I will reduce the shadows underneath the camera. Dont quote me on it though.
