Faibian, are you shooting in auto (green box)? If so, I would get the camera into manual mode as soon as possible! Its not as hard as it seems, and will give you much more control over your exposures, which is vital in something like this.

I recommend, as do most of the people in this forum, getting the book "Understanding Exposure". This book is amazing and will help you get the most out of your camera. Its a quick and easy read.

Link to it on Amazon:

hey yeah i do have it on full manual.... m that is.. i dont shoot in auto unless i hand the camera to someone else just to snap pics.. thanks for the info guys

Ok, read somewhere in the EXIF where it said auto, but it most have meant something else. I get easily confused when looking at the EXIF data sometimes. :D

Here's my attempt. Not close to everyone else's results but, I'm just starting...........

Just one 500 W to the right.

I thought the work light I picked up had two lights in it but only one. I'm going to pick up one more and do some more testing. :)

It's actually a great shot to demonstrate how razor thin depth of field can be. You can see the plane that is completely in focus and then as you move slightly left and right, in front of and behind by just the smallest amount, you're already in a plane that is no longer in focus.

My wife came home from shopping and saw what I was up to. She said she's been thinking about putting one of her Coach purses on ebay and asked me to shoot it. It barely fit in the box and the crop was super tight, but it worked.

eBay buyers aren't going to believe this is a 2nd hand purse or an "actual" photo :-)

Yeah, I know what you mean there^^. I used my lightbox to take pics of my XTi when I was selling it and I had a few people ask to see 'actual' photos of it. I told them that was it. I guess they had a hard time believing it wasn't stock photos.

Canon_fire: I love that shot. I don't know what it is about it but I really like it. Nice work.

Love the shot by the way.

Here's a couple of shots from me. An absolute beginner at this type of photography. My set up is almost exactly that as shown on page 1 of this thread.

I have to have an operation on my knee early in the new year, so I can see this keeping me amused while I recover!

Cheers,

Simon.
