I have both books now, Scott's is 10x better FOR ME. YMMV. Both address the differences between Mac and PC.

Canon 20D, Nikon D300 & assorted stuff...

I'm waiting for the books that cover 1.1 to be released, personally... although Scott has mentioned a free update (.pdf form?) of his book. In the meantime, I've checked both out from local Library. I like Scott's sense of humor, and walkthroughs at the end are nice... but I am more drawn to Martin's book for some reason.

I have Evening's book, and have perused Kelby's book in the bookstore.

Evening tends to deal with principles and Kelby tends to deal with "how to's" or solutions to a particular problem.

I prefer Evening's approach; "how to" may solve one problem very well, but often cannot be extrapolated to a different case. If you learn the principles, they can be applied to any case.

Perhaps this is my background in engineering - learn the principles well, and with experience most any problem can be solved. Learn two good tricks, and you have . . . well . . . two good tricks and nothing more. That's the difference between science and technology.

Nother vote for Kelby's books. I have used books by both authors and while they each oare very infomrative, I like the step by step layout in Kelby's books. His books are more like a reference guide.

I have both of their books on CS2 and they are both very good, but take a different approach to teaching. If you want to know how to do something in PS with more of a recipe type approach, Kelby's is the best book. If you are interested more in understanding how things work, get Evening's book. Probably its best to get both of them :D

Unfortunately I already bought his book before the unofficial announcement of 1.1. How do you go about getting the pdf? Or should I say, where did you find out that info regarding the free update?

I can't stand Evenings Book. Glad I only paid shipping for it.

From Scott Kelby's comments on his own blog post, here:

See comment #8.

No details on what form the update will be... I'm sure not a whole new book, but quite possibly an addendum, or updated pages in .pdf format would seem likely.
