Just came in, I'll keep you posted on my thoughts.
As for now and comparing it to my s230:
the s500 is almost identical in size, and prettier.
That's all I can say at this point (the battery is charging).

In fact I got my IXUS 500 last saturday. I sold my old G2 and went for a more compact digicam.

Till now very satisfied, still very good software...also for my Macintosh (new ImageBrowser 3.6).

Perhaps I miss the RAW mode but at least I can now put a camera in my trousers

s500 is much more quiet than my s230. I barely hear the lens opening and closing.

mhoutman, I hear ya! I rather have a small camera in my pocket and use Photoshop for the bells and whistles.

Speaking of images browsers.
I don't even install the Canon software anymore. iPhoto automatically sees the camera and does the job (and more).

Animator,

please do yourself a favour and install Canon Digital Camera Solution Software V. 17. It gives so much more possibilities than iPhoto 4.01. (photostitching/remote control etc.)

It is still possible to choose between either Imagebrowser and iPhoto afterwards.

P.S. I use both too

I have the S410 and have been downloading directly to Adobe Photoshop Elements....

What am I missing by not using the Canon software (ArcSoft, ZoomBrowser, etc)?
