Just a seagull

I make no bones about being no great shakes at bird shooting (there are some great shooters here) & my favourites are the crows & ravens etc.

But I went fishing yesterday & I was most impressed by the way this gull (& whatever the other one is, anyone idenify it for me??) kept following us so diligently (probably hoping for an off-cut of fish guts or bait I guess), but even so, I watched like I was almost in a trance.

Taken with the 85mm f/1.8 & 1.4x SP Tamron TC (the longest reach I had with me on the day)

I like the power in the first one, and the calm of the second.

No idea what that brown job is, but he's neat looking.

Not too familiar with Australia's birds but maybe an immature Arctic jaeger? Very easily could be wrong.

They weren't that easy to shoot actually from the rocking platform of a boat bashing it's way through the swell. Shooting them gave me something to concentrate on rather than seasickness, hehehe.

A Shearwater?? Don't know what that is (it was not by design that I was shooting them) but it makes sense, he certainly "sheared" the water, here's one with his wingtip in it

Yep, as far as I know that's where the name comes from.

Shearwaters are "tubenoses" - basically the same family that albatrosses, petrels, prions and fulmars are in.

At 85mm combination with 1.4 Brad you have two very decent shots, nice work, well done.
