Just noticed something curious about my EOS 350d. (this is on default value for CF4: Shutter half-press locks focus, AE lock button locks AE)

When in Evaluative metering mode, half-pressing the shutter button will lock AE as well as AF, so you can recompose and it won't re-meter.
When in either of the other two modes (partial/center-weighted?), half pressing the shutter button locks AF only, and if you recompose you can see the light meter changing continuously.

Can't find any of this mentioned in the manual, no reason why the three modes shouldn't be consistent. Plus you would have thought it would be more effective to lock AE when in one one of the latter two modes, since you're more likely to recompose (i.e. meter on subject in center, then point off-center somewhere).

Ah wlel. Just adding to the mysteries of C. Fn. 4.

In the bag: Canon EOS 350D | 18-55mm (kit) | 70-200mm f/4 L | 17-40mm f/4 L | 100mm f/2.8 USM macro | Speedlite 580EXII
In the pipeline: No idea. Suggestions?

It's mentioned in the footnotes at the bottom of page 92 of your 350D manual. It's also mentioned in the top table, under "One-Shot AF" for "Single Shooting", in page 153. :)
