Yes use a silver reflector as the hairlight. I made one that cost about $5 and works very nicely. Mine is a down and dirty DIY and it works.

I found that silver wrapping paper works much better than the car sun shields or reflective emergency blankets. I bought a roll of it for around $3.00. I mounted it to foam core and rigged it up to my umbrella bracket so it can tilt and angle.

OK I finally had a change to photograph my DIY silver hair light reflector. I created a very simple, functional reflector for almost nothing. I did, however already have some of the items needed.

The project requires the following:

Light Stand
Umbrella Bracket
1/4" x 3" Eye Bolt
1/4" Nut
Silver Wrapping Paper
1/4" Foam Core Board
Black Duct Tape

You can pretty much see how this was made. I cut a 24" round piece of foam core board and covered it with the silver wrapping paper. Then I mounted the reflector the eye bolt. The eye bolt was used because it was flat at the end and it stabilizes the board so it does not teeter on the bolt. The duct tape holds it flat against the back of the foam board. The nut is placed about 1/2" down on the bolt, screwed into the end of the spigot from the umbrella bracket and it acts as a stop, locking things in place. The spigot goes into the end of the bracket and tightened down.

Now you can use the tilt adjustment on the bracket and adjust it to any position or angle. Works like a charm.

Here are the pictures:

I should have made this a seperate DIY thread. I hope the moderators do not mind. I'm going to repost as its own thread.
