I shoot primarily wildlife, especially small birds. I am currently using the 20D and I am ready to upgrade. I had been eying the 1D Mark II N but decided to wait for PMA and see what comes out of it.

Well, the Mark III appears to be everything I had hoped for and more. I am glad I waited. Now all that remains to be seen is if the price will be one I can afford. If the initial price is too high, I will be forced to wait till it comes down or wait until I can save enough to purchase it. Either way I want this to be my next body.

When the Mark II debuted it was $4499 here in the U.S. If the initial price of the Mark III meets or exceeds that I will be forced into the waiting mode.

Hopefully the initial price will be one that I can afford. I am sure many of you feel the same.

So, I thought a poll might prove to be interesting.

The poll really should include options for "$3000-$3800" , "$3000 is too much for me to spend - I will wait a few years and then consider a used one" and "It doesn't suit me, so I won't buy one".

Personally, I am waiting until it gets to MSRP - at that stage I may or may not choose to buy one. I do like my MkII after all.

I have to agree as well. Although I would love a Mark III, the budget will not allow for it. I'm probably going to look at getting a 5D or another Mk II (or N).

Since the only reason I would buy one would be for the 14-bit and FPS speed, it would have to be considerably less then $3k. But that is just me.

All them nifty features and they once again left the hand strap out as standard :) :) :)

4k is the cut-off point for the release of this camera... I have a feeling its going to be like $4500 when it comes out. So i dont mind waiting a bit till its around 4k.

In the mean time, im lookin at a Mark II 1Dn for around $2200, so I can always use that as my backup once I get a Mark III.

Might as well keep my 20D since its not worth anything anymore. Good to have a beater camera laying around too.

I'd consider the 3800-4000 range, but I'd have to offload both bodies and ignore the chance at a 300 2.8 IS. Both of those situations are tough though...But that MKIII body is truly impressive.

I read the White Paper on it and on the last page it states that retail price wil l be @ $3999.
Now, forgive me if this is a dumb question. Has it been common practice that retailers will sell for more than retail price at the beginning??

If the price is $4500 I don't think you will see the price of the "N" drop as much, I just baught used last night for under $2800 US. If the price is below $4000 I think you will see the used "N" market around $2500.

Calumet Photo is listing a price of $4499.99, but state that that price might change upon release.
