I agree that Light Science and Magic is not ideal for the novice. I found it quite heavy going.

I have several books on studio work which are useful background info but there is nothing like have some hands on tuition from a pro. Good lighting is extremely difficult to achieve and a course IMHO is the way to go.

I have received it and am staring to go through it.

From everything I have seen, it's the same great content, just refreshed from and aesthetical perspective. The beauty of this book is that it talks about theory and fundementals that will always transfer and let you create what "looks" that you are goign after.

I live in the sticks, so I had the library borrow one from another library, it was the 1st edition, I can see they teach fundamentals of light, which I believe all should know. I have a $10 off $40 code I will try to post later from amazon.

Hi, just got my copy of 3rd edition Light Science 7 Magic from Amazon today. it was a Christmas present and was on back order from Dec 2006. I borrowed an older edition from the library which was in B&W and not too digitally oriented. The new edition is in full color plates and quite an upgrade and has some reference for digital and film cameras.

This book is a theorists and application book with many product and metal/reflective lighting challenges explained with diagrams. For me, a good lighting book needs to explain and show lighting setups with good diagrams and this book is one of the most recommended for beginners and experienced photographers. Let's hear from some other reviewers about this book. Thanks katt
