Great shots Billy. I often wondered when I lived down there, whether or not the people checking for illegal imports didn't just turn those rare birds loose, knowing that if there were plenty of wild parrots running around there would be no more reason to import the illegal ones after a couple of breeding seasons. ;)

actually most of these guys are the results of escape's from Parrot Jungle during Hurricane Andrew. They took to natural life in South Florida quite well and are nesting quite happily now.

the sad thing is i didnt get shots this good of macaws when i went to their home in costa rica!

thanks for the comments Mitch and Reyno!

Well, Andrew was 1992, right? I lived in Miami in 78-79 and in Coconut Grove, there were already hundreds of parrots loose in the trees of the parks. I was simply amazed to see these multi-thousand dollar birds flying around loose, cause they would come down on the grass and take food from people sitting there, even then. ;)

Not sure after so long, but they were not little birds, they were full sized pirate type parrots. I remember big red jobs being quite prevelant, and the noise was deafening. But that may be attributed to a persistant hangover that is the norm for people who live in tropical climates. ;)

The details and colour 'pop' with the three shots Billy. Amazing though all that foliage you got three clear good shots, well done.
