LM....That's what you get when you go slumming.

I suspect their requirements are based in equal parts on fear and ignornace.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I really don't care for Canon vs. Nikon wars, and I really don't want to be Canon "representative" (unless they would pay me), but some of those quotes are ridiculous... well not ridiculous but hilarious, so my morning is saved

Now that Canon has finally answered Nikons year long camera lead

I do agree Nikon had lead for long years... but unfortunately those days were 20 years ago. It's pretty funny how can people be "protective" and blinded, when it comes to "their" company. Btw... unfortunately it's not much different with some people here either

Canon needs to update the the aging 1Ds Mark II

I agree it's aging for nowadays terms, but why bother putting out new one, when already old and "aging" one doesn't have any competition?
PS: I don't know about d200, d80 etc. vs 5d, 30d, 400d, because I was luckily never using any of those cameras. So I can easily believe that Nikon is better then Canon in that area... or vice versa. :)

It's not a question of "banning", Ed - it's just that sadly, you don't meet the requirements for membership.

Well it's their policy, but unless it would be 110% only about tech stuff, this is ridiculous. When it comes to photography, it really doesn't matter if you are shooting with Canon or Nikon. On the end it's still your idea and vision, and right times and shutters. And f2.8 with 1/1000sec on Nikon is same as on Canon (more or less), so I don't see point in "requirements for membership". But it's their site so... :)

[I]That's just sad! Their right, and their loss. There are many interesting discussions around here based on the perspective of different "photographers." I'm glad this forum isn't exclusive (but I am glad it's Canon centric). :)

Maybe it just avoids all the pointless arguments about 'what's best' and helps focus on photography rather than 'brand' and 'gear'. Seems a sensible decision and no more or less sensible than open season. Both choices can work.

Want to buy my reflector, Ed? It'll mean you can conform to the rigid guidelines of forum membership?

My view? It's entirely up to them to impose whatever restrictions they want on membership. People either agree with it or walk - there's plenty of other forums around.

Too funny. I just went through their Forum at length. The Mark III threads show they are drooling over there and pretty angry at Nikon. One guy says how ticked he will be to go to a pro sporting event and see nothing but Mark III's there. The funny part was these threads were all interrupted by the moderators directing them to another Forum, and when I went there, the same moderator directed them somewhere else. It was obvious that the mods did NOT want to see all the chatter about the Mark III as they were in the envy mode and didn't want to hear about the greener grass on Canon's lawn. That was certainly the impression I got over there from several posters. I think Nikon users are feeling kind of ill seeing the Canon pro models so well accepted by the top pros.

That was my thought too, way to dark and hard to follow.

I agree it's shortsighted to restrict membership in that way, but that's just my own opinion; it is their choice entirely. I respect any forum administrators' authority to establish whatever rules they want. Remember, membership is not a fundamental human right, and when we join forums, we do so with the absolute agreement to abide by their rules. If it means you have to be a Nikon owner, that's just how it's going to be.

Apparently the fundamental difference between our forum and theirs is this: At POTN, we are primarily (not exclusively) Canon owners whose shared mutual interest is photography. The Nikonians are exclusively Nikon owners whose share mutual interest is Nikon.

BTW, this attitude has been seen among Nikon users for years, i.e. a general refusal to acknowledge even the existance of any other brand of camera.

Lord. You're a trouble-maker.
