Do I really need to get this adaptor or can I go to radio shack and pick up a cable with 2 male ends?

For most lights you need one with the mini phono plug on one end and the 1/4 inch phono plug on the other. I got mine at RadioShack for about $5.00

Most?

There are dozens or more different popular sync connections for flash gear.

See this listing at Paramount Cords, and this is just the most popular, there are many other less popular ones.

As PacAce indicates, without knowing the specific flash, or the specific style of connector on the flash end, you are nowhere.

Enjoy! Lon
