My wife and I are heading to Vegas for a weekend trip. I sat down, looked at my kit and this is my plan... I'm taking my EF 15 f/2.8, EF 17-35 f/2.8L, and EF 50 f/1.4 . I don't think I'll need my EF 24-70 f/2.8L (nor do I really want to carry it), or EF 70-200 f/4L. Should I take my EF 85 f/1.8 ? I'm trying to keep my kit "slim", taking as few lenses as I can.

1D MKI + 1Ds MKI + 5D MKI Kit - EF17-35 f2.8L | EF24-70 f2.8 L | EF 100-400L IS | EF15 f2.8 | EF35L | EF50 f1.4 | EF85 f1.8 | EF135L | 580EX II | 580EX I | 270EX II | G12

I think you're on the right track.. if I were travelling to LV, I'd be thinking Wide over Tele for sure.

I'm not sure about whether you should take the 85 1.8 (but then again, I'm positively infatuated with mine right now!)

If I were you, I'd pack light and carry just take the 1D and a 17-35, maybe a tripod for night time shots.
have fun

I used to live there. You missed one important thing....

What are you doing there? Going to Red Rock? You'll need wide and up to 200mm to get some interesting shots.

Inside the casinos? Wide and fast usually works well.

Everything else, case by case, of course ;)

Yeah I agree. If you have room I'd throw in the 70-200 too. It's not that heavy :)

Also check out Valley of Fire too, it's 30 min north of Vegas and you can get some great shots while you're away from the gambling crowd.

like previously stated, it depends on what you plan to shoot. At night, there will be plenty of opps for candid shots, in which case, I'd want your 80mm f1.8. Obviously, you'd want wide angle for all the tightly grouped buildings. The 70-200 might come in handy if you are onto of the eiffel tower or the stratosphere for some interesting shots, and also if you venture outside the strip area. Those are my thoughts, coming from a local.
