task manager SAYS its not responding (although the program warned about this) but it IS using up 40% of my CPU and a quarter gig of ram, so as long as the cpu is still active because of it ill let it run. your right, i was too lazy to go check that the first time.... still a "few minutes" and an hour is a big difference.

Hehe! I was going to install LR this weekend and play around a bit but I decided to buy a new HD instead so that will be my project for the weekend. I think I will let Adobe iron out the bugs before I buy LR.

Actually this is a concern of mine. If I have 1000 pictures, adobe software seems to need about 3GB of memory to work with it. I loaded up 300 pictures in bridge and I though I wouldn't be able to ever use my computer again. It took forever.

Is lightroom the same way?

I keep my imports to around 600 at a time for RAW files and it doesn't take that long on my 3 year old Pentium HT rig with 1 gig of RAM.

We are talking lightroom, not bridge or CS2, right?

I would suggest updating your library shoot by shoot, as you find the need to look at old pics and upload new ones. You probably already had an old method of sorting through and finding the pics you need, therefore, you have to run parallel for a bit, but it is better than wasting all the time waiting for your machine to crunch the library.

This is what I do and it has worked nicely.;)

hmm, I've done many shoots over 1k and a few over 2k and while it took a while, it never froze up. And I only have a modest system, 2gb ram, p4 3.0.

Ha! Modest! 2gb ram, p4 3.0 - You are modest........;)

I have 1gb, I guess that's the problem. When it was slow the bridge and PS where using over 800mb of memory.

Correct and I guess I should say like EOS about not updating the Library but just importing selected folders individually.
