Correct and I guess I should say like EOS about not updating the Library but just importing selected folders individually.

Yeah, now my back catalogue is all imported its working fine! I won't be importing that many in one go again!

Thats what happened with my first run so I deleted it all as I only wanted the RAW files and not all those.

if you did that, and don't want the jpegs or what ever else format, you can select down below in the folders in the library to view by type, select all the ones you don't want and remove from library.

Ironically most have the opposite issue and found a bug, in that it won't import a jpeg and RAW file, just the RAW file if its the same file name. It think the jpeg is part of the metadata or a thumbnail you don't want.

Is everyone having that jpeg/RAW problem? I shoot Raw+Jpeg sometimes, and can do without THAT headache. I'm still trying to decide if I want to get LR or not.

Haven't tried it yet, simple solution is to seperate by folders or change the filename of one set. Personally I don't see the reason for both on the HD. why would you want to proccess a jpeg whent he RAW file is right there?

I've gone through this with people before, but here's the short:

sometimes the jpegs are just fine, other times, I'll want to go back and process the RAW to do a better job.

also, sometimes I'll process raw's to jpegs so can share images with family. And the jpegs are easier for my wife to find and view (she doesn't go to Elements Organizer half time, just to actual folder and clicks on image. Problem is the Windows Raw viewer is slow, and won't show any PS adjustments I've made.

I'm trying to gather as much information now about LR before I even download the trial myself, that way I know what to look for, to make sure it works for me.
Thanks for all the info. you guys put out here corey, its really helpful. its appreciated.

Oh, I think I misunderstood your question Corey, I see what you're saying now...
It's not always that I want to process that jpeg any further (although cropping is a possibility) but if I'm going to use lightroom as an organizer, I'd like to at least have the choice to keep both right there.

hmm, just to make it easy to figure out which is which you couple make sub folder, say:
shoot name
- raw
-jpeg

that way they're seperate so your wife can find the jpegs to work with and it keeps the library cleaner. mixing them together would be harder to figure out which is which IMO.

That's a good idea, thanks Coreypolis.

It's still kind of strange that it can't do that, however. PS Elements never had a problem displaying both side by side... and DPP does it as well, and simply says RAW in the thumbnails corner if its a raw image, that's not too confusing. (And if you stack them, its even easier)

Moving from RSP I have a main folder with RAWs in and then the converted JPGs sit in a sub-folder named, spookily, Converted. I Uploaded both RAW and the JPG conversion into PSE organizer and tagged them differently. I convert ALL my RAWs (the ones I keep) because I upload them to smugmug.

In LR, having imported my legacy PSE catalogue I have aproblem as all my RAWs are untagged and the JPGs are tagged. In future I would still export all my developed RAWs to a converted folder for smugmug upload but would not import them back into LR (for me LR is a combined RSP and PSE Organizer!)

In LR, is it as easy to search for photos based on tags as it was in Elements (say picture of me, and my son, at zoo - 3 tags)?

No, nearly but not quite.. They have implemented the idea of PSE ORg but not as user friendly. I must admit that's one aspect of PSE I Love! Hope v 1.1 improves it
