An aquantance of mine just picked up a cheap set of hot lights and I told her to get a old analog meter from ebay. Any good brands or models to look for? She is a SUPER noob so it must be east to use.

But be aware that many older meters have circular slide rule type devices to determine the needed settings after setting the position of the circular slider from the meters gauge.
Enjoy! Lon

As long as she meters of off an 18% gray card. The camera metering is reflective, so it can be easily tricked under some circumstances. A cheap incident meter would remove any guesswork with hot lights.

The built in histogram feature in the camera (at no cost) would also remove any exposure guesswork.
