Hello all,

I am new to this forum and it is very very informative.

I also want to note that I read the sticky in regards to the 4GB SD - existance or fiction.

I know that the S3 accepts SDHC cards
My question is this:

I have an option of buying a 4GB class 6 card or an 8GB class 2 card.
Granted the difference between the size, but can the S3 utilize the speed?
In other words, will my shot-to-shot time (or any other camera function besides transfer of pictures) be shortened?

I wrote to Canon asking the official write speed of the camera and they wrote me back that it was essentially classified information.

I prefer experience to theory, but both are important in the answer, I suppose.

Many thanks for helping a newbie.

CTB

I have a sandisk 40 speed 512mb card and a 2 gig 120 speed sd card and honestly I can't tell any difference in my S3. Now in my 30D I can tell a difference in burst shots with my regular CF and ultra 2 CF cards

the review at DPReview seems to have it at around 3MB/s in their tests. A couple of 2GB cards might be a better choice in case the card gives up on you, then you don't loose as much.

Dear CTB
SDHC Class 2 is about x60 on the old scale which is close to what an S3 needs on maximum demand without RAW. If you use the RAW hack or want to be sure of no unnecessary delays or want to boost your post-shoot reading speed then Class4 would be a valid choice. Class 8 would be a waste because it is too fast and AFIK Canon only specify SDHC compatability at 4GB. Its your choice.

Max
There's no such thing as a bad photo, just the wrong audience.
EQUIPMENT: Canon Powershot S3 IS, 2x Transcend 2GB x150 SD, 2x 4GB Class 4 Dane-Elec SDHC, LensMate 52mm Adapter Tube and lots of stuff to hang on it.
A couple of flashes and a couple of strobes. My other camera is a Sony DSC-P200.
