I just received my ringflash and was testing it out, mind you I've never shot with any kind of flash and here's my query, why does this happen at some shutter and aperture settings.

Without it, it is a guess. Perhaps too high a shutter speed, which means that a slit forms the opening of the shutter that moves across the sensor. The brief flash goes off while the slit is open over part of the sensor, but is already extinguishes before the other part of the sensor is exposed. OTOH the transition is normally more hard edged that the blurry edge of the example! You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Mar 01, 2007 23:31 | #4 ok, yeah that makes sense, I'm self taught with everything so that makes sense, i was at a 1.4 aperture <-dumb and shutter was like 1200+ so yeah that makes sense, after i went to f/22 at 250 it went away, thanks guys...but now what will i learn in my photo classes next fall Shut up and be happy that you shoot people for a living.
