I just got a 430EX for use with an XTi. 430EX manual defers to the camera manual for the maximum flash sync speed. The XTi manual doesn't provide this information. Anyone know the fastest shutter speed I can use and still be in sync? Thanks in advance.

1/250. Put it in Manual and try to put up the shutter speed as high as you can. I'm almost positive it goes up to 1/250th.

Interesting. In other Canon instruction manuals, flash sync speed is listed in the index with a page reference. The spec is also listed in the back with the shutter specifications.

My guess would be 1/200, since that's what the RebelXT 350D is.

If you turn the flash on (HSS turned off), set the camera to Tv mode at something fairly fast (like maybe 1/500), then half-press the shutter button, the shutter speed indication in the viewfinder will change to flash sync speed.

It is 1/200 second on the 400D (XTi). It is in the manual.

The max sync speed is all over the manual. I'm surprised you didn't see it. But, yes, it's 1/200 as others have said. :)
