I want to buy a new EOS 1D Mark II N this year. But I don't want to wait until the last new one is sold and I'm out of luck. Does anyone know how long the Mark II N is likely to be available new after the Mark III comes out?

from the big places, not long. From a local shop or smaller online store, a bot longer. Its hard to say. Buying used would save you a ton ;)

At this point, Canon says that they'll only be available until their stock of the N sells out. They're not making any more. So, until your local shop's stock holds up, it'll be available. It is officially discontinued.

It will be available until they run out of them... however, why in the world would you buy a new one? There are going to be a ton for sale over the next year... many that are barely broken in. These cameras are built to take a lot of abuse and last a long time, so most of the used ones out there are as good as new. The used price on them is around $3K, so I'd give that some thought before jumping on new.

Can't blame a guy for wanting a brand new one now can you?

But there is no doubt, there will be a lot of used ones for sale. And my guess is they go for less than $3k, probably closer to $2,500.

I bought a used camera once before, a Pentax *ist D, and was disappointed. There was no manual included, and the rubber eye-piece was missing. And that was from B&H Photo.

I'd be apprehensive about spending $3,000 (or $2,500) for a used EOS-1D Mark II N and getting stuck with someone else's problem. I mean, what recourse does a buyer have if he buys a pig in a poke on eBay or Amazon.com?

The Mark II N on B&H web site for $3,400 looks pretty good right now. Does anyone know if that is likely to come down when the Mark III comes out?

It is an interesting point that has to be balanced out by the person who is buying.

Yea I would entertain the idea of buying a brand new MK II N if it was around $3K. Because i know it would still have a warranty and everything would be "virgin" from the box.

But like it is said and it's pretty much true, you are going to start seeing used II N's going for around $2500 and those will just slightly be broken in.

So in the end the decision is what do you want to pay?
