This is my very first attempt at a portrait shot. I am a wildlife/nature photographer by choice and thought I would try my hand at studio portrait photography.

I am just now setting up my studio with lighting, backdrops, etc. and studying on my own about studio photography.

I could really use some C&C here to see if I have the knack for it or if I should stick to what I know. I can take abuse so please don't hesitate to let me have it. This is truly my very first so please keep that in mind.

Thanks for your time & experience, Bo.

I like the pose and her expression, but it's a bit tought to distinguish any detail in her shirt. You man have to use slightly stronger lighting down there if you'd like to make that more visible, or you could just crop tighter!

The background is pretty neat though, very unique.

BTW, this was shot with the 18-55mm kit lens. Yes, I agree that you can't see any detail in the shirt but, it was just a plain dark navy blue shirt. I would like to have seen more detail as to how her arms are crossed, etc.

I think it's a lovely portrait- but the background is competing with her.

I had wondered if the backdrop I chose was too much?

Pretty lady. The lighting looks a bit harsh on her face and the backdrop is definitely too busy. The WB might be off a bit too. I don't see any exif but would recommend you keep the kit lens above f6.3 for this type of work to avoid softness.
