I have been taking pictures of cars for quite some time.. but never got into the lighting aspect of the picture taking... you can see some of my work in the transportation forum... I always used natural lighting for pictures...

now my questions are... what setup do you guys think were used for these type of pictures? my guess is there are 2 light sources at the right and left of the camera... now what are these? are they strobes? flashes? im confused... i just wish you could take a picture from the cameras view to see the setup. so really what im looking for are, pictures, exaples, link or anything to the kind of setup that makes these pictures possible

First example (external link)

As for this one maybe one lighting source up front and one to the right of the camera?
Second example (external link)

And this is one of many that have a model + car...

as for the model + car ones, is it just a combined effect of flashes or what?

kinda new to the "lighting" aspects of the car-photography... :\
any help would be greatly appreciated.

an example of my "natural light" picture

Usually we use giant softboxes, portable power packs and strobes. You can achieve a look like this with flashes like the 550ex or 580ex for example. I have experimented in the past with longer exposure times and firing the flash at different angles around the car to achieve a more even lighting effect. Nice shot of the scoob btw. I really like it.

This first one looks like one large softbox fired above the. Reason, even lighting of the car plus some spill to hit the wall.

This one has one flash directly in front of the car. I'm assuming it's not diffused or really close to the car. And second flash shooting directly from our right of the car, since I see the hot spots on the wheels. I think this one had a softbox.

I couldn't load any of the samples for some reason but the homepage has a shot. The car has a flash hitting the car camera left, and I'm thinking there is a softbox setup directly in front of the model. They may even have some kind of material blocking excess light from the left from hitting the model as well.

I hope my analysis of the pictures help. I love the car but I gotta ride on two. GSXR750
