So I rented a 17-55 2.8 IS for this event, and due to shipping complications it NEVER showed up... So I was pissed off, but still did my best with mostly my 50 1.8, and some 18-55 in there. So here we are:

Super chief is so big, this is all I could fit in the frame. Serious... I'm 6'6" and I took that standing straight up, and the truck wasn't on a platform.

Australian Holden concept:

The reason I brought my 70-200, I knew the Ferrari's' would be tucked away.

Mazda's two concept cars, both were stunning. Look at the headlights on this first one, awesome.

This one speaks for itself.

Maybach, I just loved how the colourations from the lighting came out, so warm and soft.

The almighty Alpina!

So unfortunately most of the shots from the day (998 total) ended up being bumpers, badges, fenders, just tight shots from the 50, the 18-55... just not enough light! Next year I'll make sure I have a fast wide lens.

I really like these. I ordered the 50 f/1.8 from B&H a week ago. Can't wait for it to arrive. I'm really impressed with the pictures it takes.

why not just use flash? i used inbuilt flash last year at the london motorshow and it did the job. then you could have had the best of both worlds, your 50 for details, your 18-55 for whole car shots.

I had an external flash and diffuser I also used for many shots with the 18-55, the results just aren't the same as the pre-existing ambient light.

Like, for the Maybach, I took some with the flash, but it destroys that beautiful colouration which was captured in the picture with the 50 1.8.

Excellent work. The crops are good and show that people who care look at the details, not the bikinis.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Thanks gentlemen, I appreciate both the comments.

After going through all my images from this year, compared to last year, although I have a lot more tight pictures, I think they're a more enjoyable part of my collection.

Great shots. Once you get used to it, 50mm is a very capable focal length in this situation. Nicely done.
