1. HDR Version

justin, i took out my original comment, as the images looks different this morning. Monitor calibrating is a pain! Very nice shots, and i added another post down below.

Great shot! I got two images exactly the same as that. I like the second one way better. There's something about PS CS2 "merge to HDR" that makes the images look washed out. They seem to lose contrast for some reason. I tried Photomatix Pro and the HDR result still looked flat. Grrr.

I agree with Meaty0 about the first image looking a bit washed out. I think HDR has better chances of succeding when one does it himself (blending two images using layer mask). When the software decides what to do I often find it's overdone.

The second one is great though. Looks like an amazing place!

I second the above...something about halfway in between would be best....I like the mood of the second far better, but a bit more detail in the rocks would be good as well.

justin, how weird. I opened your image up again this morning, and it was so bright.. I realised my monitor need calibrating again, and it has come out heaps better, but still not what i saw last night, so i don't know why it looked so much better last night. It is now showing lighter, so have another go at darkening it a wee bit.

Fantastic, awesome, tremendous composition.

The non-HDR version is definitely the winner.
I've probably only come across about half a dozen HDR pics that I would actually say I like. They just don't often look quite right to me. Unless, as montreal says, it's been done manually with layers and masks.

justin, on my laptop, the hdr looks better, the other version is coming up way too dark.

Great captures. I like the first one that is lighter showing the texture of the cave. Of course, if you could darken it a bit, it'd be nicer. M

thanks for the comments and opinions everyone! i darkened the hdr and added a little contrast. I think it looks better than the original one.

Justin - the darker version works better in my opinon. The outside section of the first one is just a little bit off.

thanks ken, i do agree with you. One night I will sit down and fix it all up using layer masks etc because once I get it right, I think it would make a nice print.
