I took my grandkids to a nearby park yesterday along with my 70-200 f/4 L. I got some amazing shots...this lens is so sharp. Of course IMHO I had some great subject matter to photograph :)

Nice, but you forgot the rule of thirds. They'd both be better with some offset composition.
I'm saving my pennies for that lens, too.

nice work, this is a great lens for capturing medium distance action.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Both of these shots are crops of the originals...which are a little more balanced. But, their Mommy likes closeups and so I crop them thet way for printing :)

My rules of kid photography are 1) capture them; 2) get them in focus if you can 3) occasionally get a good photograph while you are at it :)

The 70-200 f/4 is super for kids as you can get back away for them and shoot away...after awhile they forget you are there and then you can get some great captures. I am going to upgrade to the f/4 IS version this summer. It is reported to be one of the finest & sharpest lenses in the Canon line...not that my current non-IS copy isn't close :)

Great shots of cute kids, Jim. I'm thinking of adding this lens to my lineup, but the wife says there are a few things she must get first before I can think of another lens...:(

I'm also saving for this lens. Apart from portraits i much prefer candids of the kids so you get a nice natural photo rather than them pulling a silly face at the camera !
