Hi

I wonder if anyone can help with this problem. When trying to 'Delete all' on my 30D, the majority of the images are deleted, but then the process 'hangs' before it gets to the end - ie it leaves a few images behind and the whole thing seizes up. When this happens, the only thing I can do to 'unhang' it is to remove the battery. When the battery is replaced, the camera then works normally and I then format the disc to remove the remaining pics. I know it isn't the CF card, as it happens with both my cards.

Has anyone any ideas?

Try doing a format instead of deleting going forward.

i agree, i never muck around with that stupid delete all nonsence, i dont even know why they include it, format is much faster and more efficent.

The only ideea i've got is to try re-update your firmware (if you have 1.0.5. if not, just update ;) ). You could try restore the camera to default and remove the other battery too.
If those won't work, just format the card every time you need to get rid of the old photos, or send the camera to a Canon service .
Good luck mate ;)

I've actually seen this myself. I found out that in my case, the problem turned out to be related to the sidecar files on the flash card when I've opened and edited a RAW file on my CF card. The sidecar file gets created, and then the files would hang when trying to delete. Not saying this is your problem, but that's how it worked out for me.

Thanks for your input everyone - it looks like the answer is to format the card when I want to erase it, instead of using the 'delete all' function. Thanks again.

Just for the record - if you delete all pictures on the card frame by frame and not with delete all, everything is ok ?

That's surprising. What kind of card do you use and at what usage do you experience this taking forever?

I use Sandisk Ultra II 2Mb cards, which give me just over 200 RAW shots. What I meant was that deleting 200 individually takes a very long time. With regard to the original problem, perhaps I should just clarify that when the camera hangs on using the 'delete all' function and I reset it by removing the battery, it will then delete the remaining images.
