I posted my first "Still" movie last week here:

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=283396

Well this is #2 and done during a bridal session with an upcoming bride so I thought I'd post it here in the wedding section.

Enjoy...

Thanks, it is a lot of fun to create and the work flow is very simple with almost no post production... Got a 20/30D or a MK II? Give it a try, drop a 1000 frames and see what you get. The most difficult part is thinking in Scenes and not in frames....

What program do you use? I tried it with MS Movie Maker....eh... not so good. What picture duration and transition durations are you using? I set my 20d on Av mode so I'm thinking my shutter speed was adjusting :|

that is amazing, I am curious what program you used as well even just to do this with my kids and not so much wedding. For some reason i was unable to get the bridal one to load :-( . These capture the emotion and the energy that we all know little kids have , i love it ! good job

That was awesome! What a great song too. I know I have heard it somewhere before. Bet the bride was pleased with this.

Sorry, but I am going to go against the grain here.

I think it looks rather like a badly taken "home movie". The jerkiness is great for a few seconds, then it all gets a bit too much. I think if this had been a collection of stills, with the usual "transitions" and the occasional "sequence" of movement (rather than jerky all the way through) it would be a lot more appealing.

In fact, the only part that I really liked, was the last couple of seconds where you had a couple of still shots which faded one to the other. The idea's OK, but I just don't think it works. Not sure how the B&G would feel after watching it through with Mother, Father, Auntie & Uncle, Gran and Granddad + friends and everyone else that want's to see it.

Again, sorry to not like it, but there's no point in me saying "great job" if thats not what I think.

Thanks for sharing anyway.

TJ

TJ, I can't agree with you more, if it doesn't appeal to you that's OK with me. I do boring slide shows all the time going from posed image to posed image. To me that is boring but the best way to show off your posing/lighting/composition.

As for me I like to have fun and show the interaction with my client, not to mention, I don't have anyone in my area who would even think of using a Still camera to make a "movie". I don't even see a lot of people around looking for creative uses of their camera gear.

I shoot Super 8mm footage on old Canon 814xl's and it has that organic feel mixed with some jerk. It costs me $35 per 3 minute (50 ft) reel. That's super expensive, and this offers a cheaper alternative for me.

To answer your traditional approach, I provide a slow (5sec per image) show with nice smooth cross dissolves for my client to watch and share with friends. This idea has been much more popular as my clients are young an hip and like "cool" stuff.

I appreciate you opinion.

How is this done, MkIIn set to medium 1 jpg with a special B/W profile to limit the need to color correction. The MKII will give you 62 frame bursts @ M1. So you have to think like a film maker and prepare for your "scenes". To help with focus, use the superior AI Servo of the MkIIn and just point in the general direction of your subject. You can't always look throgugh the VF as you may trip, fall and break your camer... Don't ask, I did this

Now thinking in Scene mode, press and hold the shutter until the camera buffer fills, this is now a complete scene.

Set the next scene and do the same. The bridal movie is 9 different scenes some with 2 complete bursts.

Everything is downsized to 600x400 (Aways shoot in landscape) and then brought into Adobe Premiere Pro.

The entire post processing takes about 30 minutes.

All my best,

Gotta agree completely - really gripped to start with but would be great if slotted into a full feature slideshow here and there. Just guess its not my cup of tea either.

Great to see something different none the less.

Since you are already going to reduce this small, why not jsut use small jpg.

or do you expect to use some of these shots as wedding shots?
