50mm f/1.8 reversed - a couple of insects

Because I can't afford a dedicated macro lens, I have been playing with reversing the 50mm f/1.8.

1. Damselfly

Excellent shots, I got a feeling that #2 is a ' Spider Ant ', Leptomyrmex erythrocephalus, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

These are great, you must have pretty steady hands! When I reverse my 50mm I shake way too much to get great shots like these!

I've just bought a 50mm 1.4, so don't have much use for a 1.8. Is it easy to do this? special mount? or hand held..

It's amazing what a bit of ingenuity can do isn't it? Plus an awful lot of patience, no doubt. I like the super colours of the damselfly.

I love the dewdrop eyeballs on the damselfly. Both shots are beautiful captures. I like the environment the ant is in.

Are you reversing JUST the lens, or the lens in front of one mounted on the camera?

i saw that second picture and immediatly knew you were from australia. its a dead giveaway. its a bulldog ant...and he bites!!! very agressive and very beautiful

Good shots, especially like #2, mean looking Ant and it's like it's trying to jump out at you!
