Need Help--Canon 3s IS macro exposure

I am a newbie to the Canon, and most of my experience has been point and shoot, so am experiencing a learning curve.

My problem is when taking macro and supermacro shots, the camera over exposes the shot. Everything looks perfect until I touch the shutter button, and then it all bleaches out.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Can you post an example or two with the EXIF (shooting) information; shutter speed, shooting mode, aperture, flash, ISO, etc.?

here are a couple of the images I have taken. I am not sure how to locate the EXIF info..do you write that down as you take pics or is there a record of it somewhere?

Here is a link to some sample photos of what I am experiencing. I did find some of the info you were asking for when I took the last two shots, hope that helps.

I've had that same problem with my S3. Since it looks like you were shooting outside in daylight (at least with those examples) try not using the flash. If you have to use it, switch the camera to manual mode which changes how the flash works (I'm still not up on all the technical stuff myself, but it tones down the flash).

The flash on an S3 only works when it's up. It's manual anyhow. As for the overexposure, tone it down a bit. It's the first function after pressing the function button. Another thing, tone down on the ISO when it's like Cali or Florida sunshine aka BRIGHT!!! I've never had a problem with mine...but I went from SLR to an S3 as a fun tote-around so, once i got it I set to what I like.

Um...what else. thats about it. You didn't mention ISO #'s on the page, but it seems they are, maybe, just a little too high. Yeah...

But the Supermacro does overexpose a little, thats why the exposure comp and ISO should be used in such cases.

The EXIF data is embedded in the photo by the camera; Zoom Browser or most other photo utilities will show it. Unfortunately, it's been stripped out of the photos you posted.

The first 2 photos, I'd have to question why the Program mode shot's 1-2/3 stops over the Portrait mode shot. Do you maybe have Exposure Compensation set for Program mode?

No data on the second. Was flash in use?

I've had my S2 for 18 months, and this is the first time I have used the super micro. here's what I got with first try. Camera on tripod. Program mode, Shutter speed, 0.4. Apereture, 2.7. ISO, 50. Higest resolution, super fine compression. Photo lightened just a bit with photo editor.

Yeah... I have shot a lot of Macro and Super Macro... I use it for a tool to 'remember' how cables, plugs, etc.... are on circuit boards before working on them. Never a glitch. BUT.. I do strictly adher to the thing I learned in my G-1... "NO flash in Macro!" .... Also, I use lowest possible ISO... unless I can't get the part in 'window light'. Then any ISO that works... But I'm after recording things, not 'pretty'... [noise tolerance]
