Here are some I just went through tonight. These are all ISO1600 from the Section championships in eastern NY. These are all with 1DMk2Ns... 200 f/1.8 or 85 f/1.8. Most of the 200 shots also had a TC1.4 teleconverter in the mix. Processed in PS CS2 for exposure and color adjustment and mild sharpening.
There are more high school basketball images in my gallery at http://www.northeastfoto.com …p?do=member&imageuser=322 (external link) .

Hey Mike,

Great images. I need to call you sometime because I have a lot of the setup you have but just don't quiet get the sharpness you do.

*drools*
200 1.8...
*continues to drool*

shots look a bit on the underexposed side though, and WB seems to vary a lot from shot to shot...

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

The 200 is a special lens... my favorite by far.

Other than the second shot, I think the exposures and color are where I wanted them. I generally focus on the skin tones and let the rest go where it goes. This comes from selling to parents and they want to see the kids faces. There is some variation in the color on a couple of them... again because I made some adjustments. That second one ended a little colder than I like, but it was what worked best for the image.

Looks like you're upstate NY. Will you be at Syracuse saturday for the girls high school basketball finals?

Nope... I don't have access out there. I'd love to shoot it.

I don't have access either, but I shoot for the schools yearbook (Colonie, NY - In Albany, NY) and could most likley get you in as my friend has credidentials and I just walk in with him everywhere for free and get all access...The only thing you really need to get in to high school games is a nice looking camera around your neck.

We're Nikon guys though :P

The school should really give me a pass for all games since I'm the only person in the school who has a DSLR and takes decent enough pictures.

Did you hand hold the 200mm shots or use monopod?
Thanks

About half and half. I usually hand hold it all the time for basketball. But, here I was using a TC1.4 so its 280mm, not 200mm... and that makes it harder. I still did a little of both, but this weekend for the first time I did do more monopod use than I've done before with basketball. Part of my problem is that usually I'm in small high school gyms where there is very little room between the baseline and the wall. You have to be ready to jump out of the way in an instant, and the extra bulk of the monopod slows you down. These were in an arena and thus we had plenty of room... not to mention a half dozen photographers and TV camera men there in a row beside me. So the monopod worked pretty well. If I had to guess, I'd say the first and last may have been monopod... 50/50 chance... none of the rest were.

What kind of monopod are you using?

I want a monopod that doubles as a walking stick. Are those any good, or does it not make much of a difference?

What things do you look for in a decent monopod?
