One thing I've noticed is that on the 30D, when you take a shot in single shot mode is that you can release the shutter button halfway and can take another shot without focusing again.

The Rebel XT does not behave this way. I HAVE to refocus (by releasing the shutter button fully) before it allows me to take another shot.

I know I can get by this in burst shooting mode in XT, but I want to have the control.

So the question is: Is there a setting on the XT that will allow me to have the same behaviour as found on the 30D?

2nd question: Does the 20D behave the same way as the 30D?

Use CF 4 to put focussing on the * button. Focus won't change until you press * again.

I had my XT set this way as well as my 30D... Once you get used to the change, its so nice to have full control over what and when you focus or meter on, independently.

I recently did this change. At first I would hold half-way and be all "damn it! why aren't you focusing!?"

after a few days I got used to it, and it's incredibly nice!
