Hi,

I'm looking to start a website to host my photo's in the near future. Problem is, I don't have any clue on how large the webspace should be? Will 500mb be enough? Bandwith will be around 10GB a month I think.

I Don't want it to be too expensive, i'm just a student!

I've now found various webhosters that deliver decent packages webspace/bandwith wise, with decent support concerning SQL/CGI/PHP etc.

Any ideas on what sort of webspace a starting photographer would need?
Bare in mind, that i'll be visiting various circuit-events, etc.

It totally depends on how many pictures you will be hosting and how big they are.

Look at the size of the pictures you will be posting estimate how many you will be putting up, add an overhead for the HTML / PHP etc and then do the maths

If you're looking into getting a place for your photos, and if money is an issue, I'd seriously consider something like Zenfolio, Smugmug or pbase.

At Zenfolio, for example you can get 1GB storage for $25, unlimited storage for $40. And that is before you use a discount/referral code. Maximum file size: 10MG.

The advantage is increased traffic to your site since they have high google ranking, backup of your pics in several geographical locations (not sure about pbase), and fantastic technical support. The list goes on>>>>

Just something to think about :)

I've found a webhoster, where i get:

3GB Webspace,
60GB traffic a month
unlimited subdomains, and a lot of support for php,sql etc. etc.
for only 24euro a year!

That isn't expensive ..... hmmmm!

I'm not sure if the promo code still works, but check out dreamhost.com's 1yr plan and try using the promo code 777. If it works it should give you 1yr for a domain and a ridiculous amount of hosting space and bandwidth, for only like 9 bucks or something like that. That's about 5euro to you :)
