Hi,

I've been around the forum for a while but have now changed to Canon gear and was wondering if anyone can tell me if I should go for the canon 1.4 converter or the Kenko one. it will only be for occasional use with a 100-400 lens.

Thanks.

They both have positives and negatives so i don't think there will be one answer. For me, I prefer keeping Canon equipment with Canon equipment but thats just me. I figure if there are any issues, Canon has the ball. Also, by not mixing the two it keeps compatibility issues to a minimum. Anyway, check out this thread. It has great info.

I'd go with the Canon converter.. Note that if you don't have a pro body (1Ds, 1D MKII etc) you won't have autofocus. This applies to all converters..

FWIW, these are the Canon Forum(S). There's a very active formum dealing with lenses at https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=33

If you don't follow the EOS lens forum, you'll miss out on a lot of interesting EOS lens stuff :)

I cant speak for the 1.4 converter, but I have the canon 2x and I do have autofocus with both the 20D and the 5D. I use it with a 70-200 canon lens.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife, AND a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

I take it you have the f/2.8, then? It is my understanding that autofocus will work (but not as well) as long as the lens is still f/5.6 or faster with the t-con on. An f/4 lens should still autofocus with a 1.4x t-con on those cameras.

The Kenko one can be used with a wider variety of lenses. The debate over IQ still rages on :D
