Yep,. and it is scaring the hell out of me

This is no small step forward from the 10D... these things are freaken complex!

So,. when I got home from work it was there,. and Charles sent it with a charged battery.... :)

The Sun was still up,. not time to read any manual... I just ran back to my car with the dogs and drove to sown to India Point!

It took me a 15 minutes to figure out how to format the CF... (the menu requires two hands to navigate :( Bad bad bad ergonomic design :( )

... for a while there I thought the "wheel" was broken.. untill I realized I neede to hold own alternating buttons to get the wheel to do anything... (bad bad ergonomics)

8FPS is friggin INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!

And unlike the 10D (which I ALLWAYS have in "burst" frame advance) The 1D has NO delay from the first shot to the ensuing burst! It is VERY tricky to fire a single frame when the camera is set to 8fps.. (but I'll get used to it!

Jpegs straight from the camera are FAR sharper and richer in color than the 10D,... the AWB is really amazing...

It feels better than the 10D but really isn't any heavier than the 10D when the battery grip is attached.. on the other hand,. it positively dwarfs the 10D when the grip is not attached.

AF with all 45 AF points is very usable.. in fact thus far thats all I've used..
'cause I haven't figured how to change that yet either :)

Well,. I'm off to start reading the manual.

Why did you get a 1D when you have already ordered the 1D MKII?

I intend to end up with two bodies.. (having had one die on me when I only had one.. yuck :( )

I had been looking at 1D bodies since before the MkII rumors started...

When I ordered the MkII I put the 1D on hold,. but then when the 10D bit the dust... I spent the weeks without it looking at 1D's again... If i'd been able to find a new one in a shop I would have bought one then.

When this 1D turned up from someone I could trust,. (as opposed to Ebay which scares me at this kind of dollar value) I jumped on it. (in fact I was second in line,. the fact that someone got there before me to me was fate,. I was NOT supposed to get a 1D... well then the first buyer backed out.. I WAS supposed to get the 1D.. )

So ,. at some point I will need to decide which two Cameras to keep,. I may even cancel the MkII order... ( Yeah, RIGHT!)

So far I am torn .. both the 10D and 1D will have there own advantages as a back-up second cam to the MkII...

It will be a very hard decision.

CDS,
I'm going to make it easy for you. Send me the 10D to use as my backup to my 10D and I can give the wife back her A70 that I am using as a backup to the 10D....

I say we all show up at CyberDyne's house and kick his butt and take all of his gear. After using it, we'll auction it off on eBay in a charity we put up to honor Forum Moderators.

You're probably one of the few here that has had an "out of body" experience. :)

I had been looking at 1D bodies since before the MkII rumors started...

When I ordered the MkII I put the 1D on hold,. but then when the 10D bit the dust... I spent the weeks without it looking at 1D's again... If i'd been able to find a new one in a shop I would have bought one then.

I had a similar call of fate when my Elan II died 4 weeks prior to my sister's wedding (OK, it didn't really die - the film door latch failed. I could have used it with rubber bands holding things together like both of my flashes) - and, B&H just happened to have 10D's in stock. :)

So ,. at some point I will need to decide which two Cameras to keep,. I may even cancel the MkII order... ( Yeah, RIGHT!)

So far I am torn .. both the 10D and 1D will have there own advantages as a back-up second cam to the MkII...

That would be a hard decision - and one that I'm not likely to have to make (of course, you never know). ;)

Harder than you think...

Contrary to what most 1D owners will tell you,. I find the 10D images very noticeably better than the 1D images.. in two ways.

1. Resolution and detail.. yes two more MP does make a difference.

2. Noise,. at the same ISO settings the 10D simply blows away the 1D for noise.

There were definate advancements from the 1D to the 10D.. and of course part of it could be CMOS Vs. CCD...

On the other hand,. the 1D's jpegs blow AWAY the 10D's.. they are really sweet straight out of camera.

Obviously of the MkII is my main camera there will be advantages to have a 1D as back up,. control layout is nearly identical,. where as with the 10D it would be at best "similar"

Then the 1D has that AF,. more accurate at MUCH faster, the higher burst rates.. and on and on...

Another plus for the 10D.. remove the battery griop and put a 50mm f/1.8 on it you have a nice portable solution....

Oh.. how will I ever make up my mind!

Oh, the agony of having to make such decisions. For me it's "Should I get rid of the 10D with the BG-ED3, or the other 10D with the other BG-ED3?"

This one's going to keep me up all night. ?! ?! ?!

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!
