Spent last weekend in Northern Ontario at another round of the CSRA National snowcross championships. The weekend started out with racing on Friday night, but it was cancelled due to a lack of racers making it into town in time, due to a nasty storm that swept through Ontario. So the Friday program was added to Saturdays racing. The day dawned partly cloudy, but then becoming a day of light snow, which made shooting pretty much a waste of time.

This meant that Sunday had better dawn clear and stay that way, if I was to produce anything half decent. Compounding the problem is the track is built at the local ball diamonds, which are located next to a rail line and a major hydro line. Add in a bunch of hydro poles, trees, fences, buildings, and general clutter of a downtown core in a northern mining town, and getting anything worthwhile becomes a major chore.

But I think I got a few that will pass in the dark for being reasonable, all things considered.

Thanks for the comments.

I get trackside access to all snowcross events.

I have trail ridden with a number of both the racers and corner workers, and they all look forward to what I am gonna come up with.

Until you have seen what this particular facility looks like, you have no idea how hard it is to come up with a decent shot, with a reasonably attractive background is. It is by far the hardest track to shoot on the circuit, due to all the hydro lines, light standards, fences etc in the background. It took away some great late afternoon air time shots, because nobody wants to see hydro lines acrossed a picture.

I used the apartment bulding as a backdrop, to help place where the picture was taken, and the crowd to add a little extra colour to the background.

If you do a search of the word snowcross on this forum, look at the post I had from last season of the Kirkland Lake Pro Snowcross to see just how ugly this place truly is.
