i am thinking about getting some studio lighting, however i dont have much of a budget, any advice would be great. thanks,

dont mean to be rude, but you are probably the fiftieth person to ask this during this week, search a little and you will be amazed about the info, shoot just check the stickies too

well i want something versatile. i would be shooting people,
i guess my buget depends on how much i make that week...lol
at the local camera shop they sell a set with 3 lights, stands and umbrellas they can be tripped by infrared, or a flash or a remote i believe, its 500, but he will sell it to me for 420, i am trying to remember the watage of the lights, i want to say 460?

First of all but this book by Scott Smith (external link). Its invaluable and will help you better know exactly what you need and what order to buy things as you start out.

I second the suggestion of getting Studio Lighting Made Simple by Scott Smith. Inexpensive is a relative and subjective thing so if you could let us know what you are willing to spend we can better assist you.

thats a good point, i guess i would like to get a set up thats not bad for around 400-500, something i coudl then upgrade, but i dont want to waste money as i have done on some of my other photography stuff.

Find out exactly what is being offered in detail (maker, model etc) and post that specific info here. Only then is it likely you will get focused help with value considerations of the cited gear.

the set up i was talking about from teh camera shop is from rps, it comes with 3 160watt lights. umbrellas and stands and its remote.
