I get mad and frustrated whenever I see any one of the Kestrels and Kites near where I live hovering over a field. Usually when I don't have the camera with me and/or I'm on my way to work.

Currently just a P&S, but watch this space.

I'm not sure what a addict is but I spend a lot of time watching power lines, poles and roadside trees.

I would have to agree. I am a relative newbie to photography in general. I have a lot to learn in many areas. I was just lamenting (if lamenting is the right word) to a friend over the weekend that I am spending "too much" time chasing birds and not nearly enough time on landscapes, portraits, etc.

I don't have the killer bird lens (yet!!). But I will bet that I have probably taken 98% of my photos in past several months with my 70-300 IS lens at 300mm. I carry both a Sigma 10-20 and the Canon 28-135 IS but couldn't tell you the last time I had them mounted on the camera. The kit lens is in another bag as is the "nifty fifty".

This usage pattern is probably why I am starting to look at the 400mm f/5.6 L or the 100-400L or the Sigma 50-500 or the Tamron 200-500.

So YES, bird photography IS DEFINITELY addictive.

It's not addictive, it just turns you into an Lcoholic.

My point exactly. I'm always looking at longer lenses. Addictive it is and expensive

*raises hand* I'm addicted!

I work evenings/nights and lately I've been taking my camera with me just on the off chance I'll get the opportunity to capture a bird I haven't managed to yet (or to improve my shoddy ones). I use my 70-200 for this but have recently bought the bigma for when I shoot at home or on outings. My plans are for this lens to tide my over until I can afford an upgrade of all my equipment - in about 4 years time if I don't decide to put myself deeper into debt!

What's funny about me is that I may have taken a bunch of pics of the same bird, but when I see it again I find myself taking more pics of the same bird. I don't know if I think the lighting is better, the angles are better, or that I might miss that one awsome shot. After seeing a lot of the other post on here like Reyno's dinner shots I don't want to miss that one action shot that makes it all worth while!! I love finding new birds as well. Makes it kinda of like a game!!

I'm not addicted but whenever I have my camera w/ my 100-400 and I see a bird flying I try to get a good shot (if I do not have anything else to shoot).

Birds is part of the reason I went to DSLR. My 100-300 w/ 1.4 TC is always on the camera.
