Today I activated a trial account and I have uploaded several images. When in the "smugmug" style, all I see are thumbnails. I do not get the larger sized images on the right side of the screen. In filmstrip style, sometimes when I click on a thumbnail, all I get is an empty rectangle. This seems to be random - sometimes I get a picture and sometimes I don't. With the slideshow, after a minute or so, it just stops and freezes on an image. I have tried clearing my history and temporary files. Plus I downloaded the latest version of Java. But nothing is helping.

You would have a better chance of getting specific Smugmug questions answered through their support forums at www.dgrin.com (external link)

It is free to join and they are very helpful and could have you fixed up I am sure in no time.

I have discovered that everything seems to work better with firefox - which they recommended I get. Now, I don't want to get into a war over which browser to use, because I am sure Smugmug is intended to work with either browser. So I guess my question now is what's wrong with my IE? I looked at somebody's smugmug site a few weeks ago and everything was fine.

Have you looked into Zenfolio? I was set on getting Smugmug when I found out about ZF and I prefered it instantly. :) Lots of new features will be added in the near future such as customized pricing and comments. I can wait.

I have Smuggy account and I had some trouble at first... I was uploading pics too small. But the advice before me is good. Smuggy has the best customer support I have experienced in a long time. Just email the help and someone will get back to you usually Right away.

Thanks - actually, I have been e-mailing them back and forth all day. But the problem has not been solved in IE. But as I said, I tried firefox and it works. Still I would prefer IE. Anyway, I posted here just to see if anyone else had any suggestions.

I have same problem too. Can't open the bigger image when click on the thumbnails with IE.

It's really suck that smugmug couldn't help solving the problem but instead recommended Firefox as a work around. Firefox is ok but it's not any better than IE.

I'm between smugmug and Zenfilio but I guess with that kind of customer service, I'm not signing up with smugmug then :(

I don't think that you can go wrong with Zenfolio if that is the way that you decide to go.

Well, now I am at work and we have IE6. My smugmug account works perfectly fine here. So it must be something with my IE settings. But I really don't know what to look for. I don't think I can fault smugmug with not being able to help me on that. With all the people who use smugmug and IE, how are they to know what setting is off? And since it works on a different computer, it is not my photos or my account. But it would be nice if they would research the problem.

Send them this email and I am sure they will. Glad to hear you are making progress with it though.

Maybe you need to upgrade your version of IE at home?

I personally prefer Firefox over IE - so this would not even be a concern for me.

On one computer I have IE 6. On the other I have IE7. I get the same results on both.

Open up a trial Zenfolio account - upload some shots - and see if you like the presentation there as well as Smugmug.
